Qualcomm cooking up cheaper ‘Snapdragon 7cx’ for ARM laptops

The Snapdragon 7cx will offer a cheaper alternative for the more powerful Snapdragon 8cx, acting as a dedicated ARM PC chip for low-cost devices.

What you need to know

  • Qualcomm is working on a cheaper dedicated PC chip to complement its powerful Snapdragon 8cx.
  • Currently dubbed the Snapdragon 7cx (though that branding could change), the chip was mentioned in a recent episode of the Mobile Tech Podcast by Qualcomm Vice President Don McGuire.
  • The 7cx will offer lower performance than the 8cx, but is expected to appear in PCs costing as low as $300.

Qualcomm last year unveiled the Snapdragon 8cx, a dedicated PC chip aimed at offering performance comparable to Intel’s Core i5 processors.
